Exotic/Rare Animal Species Information

We carry a wide range of exotic trophy species to suit a variety of budgets and tastes. Many of the species that we pride ourselves on are described below.

Fallow Deer

Fallow deer occur in 4 basic color variations “common”, “menil”, “melanistic” and “white”. All have white spots on their backs (though sometimes very faint) and white rumps/tails with black tips. . Younger males have spikes or more “regular” antlers comprised of beams with 3 to 4 basic points per side and little to no palmation. Females do not grow antlers and male antlers are shed and regrown each year.

Mouflan Sheep

Mouflon have a red-brown short-haired coat with a dark back-stripe, white to light colored saddle patch, ‘socks’ and underparts. Mature males turn black on lower neck. White circles around eyes and muzzle. The males have thick, ridged horns; some females are horned while others lack horns. The horns of males are curved in almost one full revolution

Blackbuck

Blackbucks are considered one of the fastest animals in the world. Their keen eye sight and blazing speeds are its main protection against predators. When alarmed, the herd disperses in high leaps and bounds, and then breaks off into a quick gallop.

Axis

Bucks shed their horns on their birthday with rut taking place from July until September. Axis can weigh in excess of 250 lbs and stand more than 50 in tall. Axis deer are elusive and can be a great challenge to the experienced hunter.

Nubian Ibex

The Nubian ibex is relatively small compared to other ibexes. Its coat is a light sandy brown in color with the hindquarters lighter. The underparts are almost white, and the upper side of the tail is darker. Bucks have a dark stripe on their front legs and one down their back, as well as a dark beard. During the October rut, the neck, chest, shoulders, upper legs, and sides of bucks become dark brown to almost black in color. The semicircular horns curve upward, backwards, and finally down. While they are found in both sexes, but are much larger in males than females.

Blackbuck

Blackbuck antelope are one of the smallest antelope species of the exotic breeds. Mature males differ in appearance greatly from that of females. As males age, their coloration graduates from a light tan at birth to dark brown, almost black, at 5 to 6 years of age and older. These older males exhibit a striking contrast in color with their bright white bellies, muzzle, and “eyebrows”. Females and young have similar white markings to males with main coat color being tan. Male horns “corkscrew” upward in a V-shape with 1-4 tight spirals (depending on age and genetic potential). Female horns are often thinner, smoother, and may grow in non-typical patterns. Males typically weigh from 70 – 100 lbs. while females weigh slightly less.

Axis

Axis Deer are one of the most pristine of all the exotic deer, with a beautiful six by six horn configuration towering up to 40 inches tall. This is a must for any hunter’s trophy room. Axis Deer are originally from Europe and were imported in the 1800′s. Their unique spotted coat makes them one of the most beautiful of all the deer species.

Zebra

Zebras are equids, members of the horse family. They inhabit tropical grasslands in sub-Saharan Africa. These animals are covered in beautiful black and white stripes and are odd-toed ungulates. Some zoologists believe that the stripes act as camouflage. Zebras are social herd animals, living in groups called harems.
